The Ministry of Infrastructure is working on a blueprint that will show where the charging stations should be placed, so that a person will not travel 50 kilometers without reaching a station.
It is a program that aims to help investors in this modern field of transportation so that they will not install charging stations everywhere in cars, and some of them will end up without production.
This master plan should identify the number of power stations needed across the country, focusing on the most populated and highly traveled areas, as well as existing gas stations and commercial buildings.
A preliminary analysis revealed that there is a need for at least 226 charging stations across the country. Until August 2024, there were 24 electric stations in Rwanda, four that recharge electricity in motorcycles and 49 places that increase electricity in motorcycle batteries and replace motorcycles.
Only those households will not be counted. The New Times writes that the plan that is being developed will help to distribute these stations in all parts of the country and are among the most important ones that should be taken into account in promoting the use of electric vehicles.
The report of the National Tax and Peace Agency, RRA showed that the number of electric cars in Rwanda from 2020 to 2024 is 512, while including those that use electricity and fuel (Hybrid) in total 7,172.
