Preliminary results from Mozambique's recent general election indicate that the ruling party, Frelimo, is leading in all 11 provinces, positioning its presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, as the likely successor to current President Filipe Nyusi.

However, election observers have raised concerns about the integrity of the election process, citing issues such as disorganized vote counting, poorly sealed ballot boxes, vote buying, inflated voter rolls, and reports of intimidation in certain areas.

Opposition parties have alleged widespread fraud, with at least one party calling for a nationwide strike on Monday and another announcing plans to contest the election results in court.

Frelimo has been in power since Mozambique gained independence from Portugal in 1975 and has faced accusations of election rigging, which the party has consistently denied. Final election results are anticipated by October 24.
