The President of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, on December 5, 2024, changed the senior officers of the country's Police and the Ministry of Internal Security.
In the position of Director General of the Burundian Police, Brig Gen Ninteretse Joseph, who was the director of the General Hospital of the Police, replaced Gen Maj Frédéric Budomo who had been in this position since October 2021.
The decision to appoint Brig Gen Ninteretse to this position was approved by all 39 senators in the Burundian Parliament. Col Kenyata Joseph has been appointed as the Chief Commissioner of the Police Department for Judiciary, Brig Gen Nibaruta Anicet has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Internal Security.
President Ndayishimiye's order states that Col Nzitabakuze Arthémon has been appointed as the director of investigation at the Police Headquarters, Col Nzigiyimana Damien Emmanuel has been appointed as the director of the logistics department.
Col Bigirindavyi Abraham was appointed as the police officer in charge of improving the relationship between the police and the community, and Col Nduwamungu Richard was appointed as the deputy officer in charge of management and resource management.
In different parts of Burundi, Deputy Commissioners in charge of security were appointed, including Col Ndayikenkurukiye Innocent who was posted in the West, Col Hakizimana Dominique who was posted in the North, Col Bigirimana Barthélémy who was posted in the East and Col Bizimana Donatien who was posted in the South.
Col Manariyo Emmanuel was appointed Police Commissioner in Kirundo County, Col Niyongabo Dismas was appointed Deputy Commissioner in the West in charge of the Judiciary Police Department.
Another decree of President Ndayishimiye was issued on December 5, 2024, stating that he made Maj Mpabansi Pamphile the Director General of the Police Academy, ISP. President Ndayishimiye also made changes in the Ministry of Internal Security in Burundi, starting with the Director General in charge of protecting civilians and combating disasters.
This post was given to Gen Maj Ndikumana Roger. Col Ndayiragije Ernest was appointed the technical director in the Ministry of Security in charge of police conduct, Col Ndayinginga Sosthène was appointed the director in charge of coordination of civilian protection activities in Bujumbura province.
Col Mbarirande Michel was appointed as the head of the Ministry responsible for the coordination of civilian protection activities in Cankuzo province, Lt Col Habonimana Gilbert was given the same responsibility in Cibitoke.
In Gitega province, Col Ntirampeba Albert was appointed as the coordinator of civilian protection operations, Col Salum Alex was given this responsibility in Kayanza, Col Ndabahagamye Bonfort was assigned to protect civilians in Muramya.
Col Masabo Léopold was appointed as the coordinator of civil protection operations in Muyinga province, Col Miburo Gérard was given this role in Rutana.
Col Hatungimana Alexis was appointed to protect civilians in the municipalities.
The changes in the security agencies are in line with other President Ndayishimiye made in other agencies on December 5, 2024, including the Gaming Authority (LONA) and the Office of Taxation and Customs (OBR).
