The armed group of M23 on December 18, 2024 took away the army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the area of Mbingi in the territory of Lubero, the residents of the city of Butembo are asked to defend themselves.
M23 captured Mbingi in the afternoon, after the fighting lasted for a short time. It is said that at that moment, the RDC army group found themselves under siege and decided to flee.
M23 takes Mbingi after taking other important parts of Lubero including Matembe, Alimbongo and Mambasa. The government of the RDC stated that the failure of the coalition was due to the use of drones by these fighters.
After it became apparent that the RDC military coalition had been overwhelmed, the civil society based in the city of Butembo continued its campaign asking the people to prepare to face the M23.
The president of this civil society, Mathe Saanane, said: “On Sunday night, M23 easily captured Matembe, Thimbothimbo, Vutsorovya, Nduta, Alimbongo and Mambasa.
No one knows where these fighters are.” He continued, "Due to this situation, the leadership of the civil society in Butembo town is asking the civilians not to panic."
M23 fighters are about 100 kilometers from the town of Butembo and 50 kilometers from the center of Lubero.
Many people have fled to these areas due to the fear that their security will be threatened.
