Emilie Vansteenkiste, who was crowned Miss Belgium 2023, and her boyfriend, Jonas, were involved in a serious car accident, in which both were seriously injured but survived.
The accident occurred on July 31, 2026, near the town of Marche-en-Famenne in Belgium, while Emilie and Jonas were attending a vintage car show. They were in a Volkswagen Beetle with other vintage car enthusiasts on a trip to Germany. Ann-Sophie Van Triel, who previously represented Emilie, said that before the accident, Emilie and Jonas heard a strange noise coming from the car and stopped to check on the problem. After they got back on the road, another car hit them.
Jonas was driving the car. Emilie hit her head on the steering wheel, lost consciousness, and was bleeding from her nose and mouth. Emilie suffered a serious head injury and a broken nose. Jonas also suffered a serious leg injury and is awaiting surgery. Ann-Sophie Van Triel said the type of car they were in played a big role in how the accident affected them. She said it was a 1960s car that was roadworthy, but did not have the safety features that modern cars have, such as airbags and seat belts.
She said the accident could affect their careers. For Emilie, her appearance is very important in her advertising career, while Jonas is still unsure of the long-term effects of his leg injury. After being released from the hospital, Emilie and Jonas returned home to continue their recovery. Jonas is awaiting surgery next week, while Emilie will have another check-up to determine when she will undergo emergency facial surgery. Emilie Vansteenkiste has been crowned Miss Belgium 2023, representing Belgium in international beauty pageants after being named the country’s most beautiful woman.
