Jason Arday, a 41-year-old former professor at the University of Cambridge, was found dead at his home in Battersea, south London, on August 14. The Metropolitan Police reported that his death is being treated as unexpected and not suspicious. Arday had resigned just days prior amid allegations of plagiarism brought forth by academic Nathan Cofnas, who cited multiple instances of copying in Arday’s work and questioned certain claims of his accomplishments. While Arday denied the allegations, he acknowledged having made errors in his academic publications.
In his resignation statement, he indicated that the ongoing public scrutiny and accusations had taken a severe toll on his mental well-being and that of his family, asserting that his resignation should not be interpreted as an acceptance of the claims against him. The Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University, Professor Deborah Prentice, expressed deep sadness over the news and extended condolences to Arday’s family and friends.
