Various officials including Cameroon's Ambassador to France, André Magnus Ekoumou, the Minister of Labor and Security, Grégoire Owona, and others have denied the news of Paul Biya's death insisting that it is a rumour.

Rumors of Paul Biya's death began to spread after he did not appear at the UN Security Council, the Francophone Conference, and the Conference on Sustainable Development held in Hamburg, Germany.

The news came from some Cameroonians living outside the country who continued to pressurize the administration asking where he is because he was said to be sick at the Percy Military Hospital located in Clamart, France.

It ended with the announcement that Paul Biya passed away as reported by the South African newspaper ABS Africa TV. Cameroon's ambassador to France, André Magnus Ekoumou, on October 8, 2024, told Jeune Afrique that Paul Biya did not seek medical treatment in Clamart or anywhere else in France, confirming that the rumors are rumours.

He also said that he is in good condition although some believe that he may be sick. The Minister of Labor and Security, Grégoire Owona, blocked the X website and said that those who reported such rumors should be held accountable.

He said, “All those who want to use different tactics to mislead the public and announce the death of the President of Cameroon should pay the price of such a lie.

They don't have a heart, the authorities should do something about them regardless of their origin or location. We are in a democracy, but hatred and cruelty have a place that should not be crossed."

The Secretary of Communications of the CPDM Party and the Minister of Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo, also said that the information is just false.

Despite this, the opposition continues to request the Office of the President and the Cabinet to do everything possible and provide real information about the life of Paul Biya.

President Paul Biya is 91 years old and has been the President of Cameroon since November 6, 1982 after being the Prime Minister of that country from 1975 to 1982.

He is currently leading the country for a seventh term that will run until 2025.
