The Zanzibar Airports Authority has explained that the suspension of Air France and KLM flights to Zanzibar is not due to passenger insurance claims as some have claimed.
In a statement released on December 19, 2024, ZAA CEO Seif Abdalla Juma said that reports circulating on social media that flights have been canceled due to the cost of US$44 for passenger insurance are false.
He said, "This information is not true, the cancellation of these trips is due to changes due to the season we are in, it has nothing to do with insurance."
Air France has announced that it will temporarily suspend flights between Paris and Zanzibar from March 22 to May 25, 2025, due to the rainy season and low passenger traffic.
KLM will also suspend flights between Amsterdam and Zanzibar from March to October 2025, which will resume at the end of 2025. The Citizen reported that Juma urged people to beware of rumors and follow official announcements from airlines or reliable media.
Despite concerns about the impact of the cancellation of these tours on Zanzibar tourism, ZAA assures stakeholders that it will continue to support them.
