The Prime
Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Judith Suminwa Tuluka, accused
Rwanda of preventing their country from fighting climate change.
He said this when
he was in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he attended the 29th meeting of the heads of
state and government of the United Nations on climate change, COP29.
He said:
"RDC, my country was forced to put part of its budget in the war that
ended in an unjust way with Rwanda, we had to put it in the environment."
The DRC
government has long accused Rwanda of sending troops to North Kivu province to
help the M23 armed group that broke out in November 2021.
It revealed that
the war between the DRC army and the M23 group has caused the country's
military budget to increase by 300% in 2022, reaching 1 billion dollars.
In the budget
prepared by the government of the DRC from 2024 to 2028, the military and the
police have been allocated 20% equal to 18 billion dollars, a figure that is
much higher than in the past.
The government of
Rwanda has shown that it has not sent troops to this province, and that it does
not provide assistance to the M23 group. He explained that the allegations of
the RDC government are baseless.
He explained that
instead the RDC forces and the FDLR terrorist group continued their plan to
disrupt the security of Rwanda, in 2022 they will attack Mortier in its north.
Due to the bad
spirit between these countries based on these claims, from 2022 in Luanda,
Angola, talks will be held between their representatives, aiming to resolve
this conflict.
