Some members of the Parliament of the East African Community known as EALA, have started a plan to impeach their President, Joseph Ntakirutimana.
The impeachment process was initiated by a group of parliamentarians led by Gerald Blacks Siranda, who represents Uganda in EALA, accusing him of mistakes that are causing this Parliament to be used by people who do not belong to it.
Siranda and his colleagues say that Ntakirutimana stripped EALA of its independence, put it under the control of other bodies of the organization including the council of ministers and its secretariat, and took decisions to change its program without consulting those who met in the administration.
They also accused him of using inappropriate language while leading the work of this House and failing to properly manage the discussions held by the members of this body.
Ntakirutimana became the Deputy Secretary General of the ruling CNDD-FDD party in Burundi. He was elected to this role in December 2022, replacing the Rwandan Martin Ngoga.
