President Kagame talked with Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan

President Paul Kagame, on November 13, 2024, met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, they discussed the cooperation between this country and Rwanda in developing important institutions.

 President Kagame went to Baku, Azerbaijan for the 29th meeting of the heads of states and governments of the United Nations on climate change, COP29, which started on November 11. 

After the Head of State and his colleagues participated in this meeting on November 12, he thanked President Ilham for Azerbaijan organizing COP29, which went well.

In their meeting, the office of the Head of State, Village Urugwiro, said, "The Heads of State discussed a sustainable way to strengthen cooperation in key sectors that include promoting investment, trade and knowledge exchange for the successful implementation of tasks."

 In October 2024, President Ilham received papers authorizing Ambassador Lt Gen (Rtd) Charles Kayonga to represent Rwanda in Azerbaijan. 

At that time they discussed the opportunities of cooperation between the two countries.

 At that time, Ambassador Lt Gen (Rtd) Kayonga told President Ilham that President Kagame values ​​the relationship between Rwanda and Azerbaijan, and that although the distance between these countries is long, there are great opportunities for cooperation. 

Relations between the two countries began in 2017. 

Azerbaijan has an ambassador in Rwanda, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Ambassador Kayonga is based in Ankara, Turkey.
