The President of Kenya, Dr William Samoei Ruto, on November 1, 2024, received the oath of office of the new Vice President, Prof Abraham Kindiki Kithure.
Prof Kindiki was the former Minister of Security and Local Government, replacing Rigathi Gachagua who was recently impeached by the Parliament, accused of racial discrimination and discrediting the country's institutions.
After receiving Prof Kindiki's oath, President Ruto announced that a good leader is one who does his duty, breaks down ethnic boundaries, strives for integrity, strives for unity and supports the government and the Head of State in programs to develop the people.
The Head of State expressed that Prof Kindiki has the knowledge and experience to help him implement Kenya's economic development plan, as Vice President. Prof Kindiki told the participants of the ceremony that he was proud of the trust given to him by the Head of State, assuring him that he would not abandon him in the development of Kenya.
He said, “Before this meeting with God, I promise you that I will not abandon you because of the honor you have given me.
I have been a student of politics for almost 20 years, and I have no words to express my happiness today.
I thank God almighty for guiding my steps and I thank you.”
After Prof Kindiki's swearing in ceremony on October 31, 2024, the court rejected Gachagua's request to stop it.
