Rwanda has been assigned to host the African Championship in Golf which will be held in 2027, the Ministry of Sports confirms that preparations are about to begin.
This was announced by the President of the African Golf Association, Johnson Omollo, this Sunday, October 6, 2024, during a ceremony to reward the best performers in the competition that unites the countries of the Fourth Region 'Zone IV'.
It was a ceremony held at Kigali Golf Resort & Villas attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, Kenyan Ambassador to Rwanda, Janet Mwawasi Oben, and others.
The players who participated in this tournament identified the Kigali International Stadium as one of the best they have played in and the way the games went was well prepared. Kalanga Micheal from Kenya, who won the grand prize, said that Rwanda is "the country with the best pitch since I started playing, I want to play there more often.
" Johnson Omollo, who manages Golf in Africa, said that the way the games went is a step that shows the good direction of Rwanda in hosting international competitions and they will always have confidence in them.
He said, “Having a competition like this is very valuable because we came to Rwanda and it welcomes us, treats us well, and welcomes us. In short everything was good.
The management of Golf in Rwanda showed us that we have to come back and that's it."
“We are many countries that need this tournament but in order to increase this kind of good, we have created a tournament that will help us to promote the children who play golf behind us.
It is a youth tournament that will be played every year. In 2027 it will be held in Rwanda.”
The Chief Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, said that Rwanda is ready to host both such activities, especially those that support the development of young talents.
He said, “Apart from this competition, we are ready to host other important ones.
Another important thing is to promote more and more children playing this game.”
There are many countries that need this tournament but in order to increase the benefits of this, we have created a tournament that will help us to promote the children who play Golf behind us.
It is a youth tournament that will be played every year.

The Rwandan team came third in this Zone IV tournament, following Kenya and Uganda ahead, Seychelles and Mauritius tied while Ethiopia came fifth.
