President Emmanuel Macron of France has planned to discuss with Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the conflict between these countries in the African Great Lakes region.

President Kagame and Tshisekedi are in Paris, France from October 3, 2024. They are going to participate in the meeting of the heads of government of the countries that are members of the French-speaking countries, OIF.

In the morning of October 4, 2024, President Macron received Tshisekedi, they discussed the security of the eastern part of the DRC as explained by the office of the President of this country.

This office said "President Tshisekedi and Macron discussed the security and humanitarian situation in eastern DRC arising from Rwanda's provocation and the achievements along the lines presented in Luanda, with a view to the talks in Kinshasa and Kigali."

After this meeting, it is expected that President Macron will talk with Kagame about the main topics including the Luanda talks, which will lead to the end of the war in North Kivu province and to meet the relations between Rwanda and the DRC.

France points out that the talks in Luanda organized by President João Lourenço of Angola are important because it is the solution to these two problems that threaten the security of the region.

It is expected that President Macron will ask the leaders of the two countries to continue supporting these talks so that the expected results can be seen soon.

In September 2022, President Macron met Kagame and Tshisekedi when they attended the United Nations General Assembly, in New York, United States of America. Discussions were held to outline how this conflict could be resolved.

After this meeting, the discussions at the regional level continued, looking for what would bring peace and security to the region, but it was found that the results are still low.

On July 30, 2024, in the talks held in Luanda, it was decided to stop the fighting between the opposing parties and to destroy the FDLR group, but the RDC government rejected the method provided by Angola to destroy this group.

After the last meeting in Luanda on September 14, 2024, the delegates of these countries failed to reach an agreement, it is planned that they will meet again in October 2024 to reach an agreement.

The Ambassador of Angola to the United Nations, Francisco José da Cruz, on September 30, 2024, announced that the talks between the representatives of these countries are preparing for the possibility of bringing together President Kagame and Tshisekedi, and make an immediate decision that will restore peace in the region.
