Amavubi Squad of 25 Heads to Côte d'Ivoire for AFCON Qualifier Against Benin

In the early hours of Monday, October 7, 2024, Rwanda's national football team, Amavubi, departed for Côte d'Ivoire to face Benin in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

A total of 25 players are part of the squad traveling for the third group stage match in the AFCON qualifiers. The match will be held at Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium on October 11, 2024, at 6:00 PM. Head coach Frank Spittler selected these 25 players from an initial list of 38.

The team includes 11 players from Rwanda, such as goalkeeper Niyongira Patience from Police FC, Fitina Omborenga and Muhire Kevin from Rayon Sports, and several from APR FC like Byiringiro Gilbert, Niyomugabo Claude, and Niyibizi Ramadhan. The squad also features foreign-based players, including forward Johan Marvin Kury from Yverdon Sport FC in Switzerland, who has been called up for the first time.

After this third match, Amavubi will host Benin on October 15, 2024, for the fourth game of the qualifiers. Amavubi currently has two points from two matches, having drawn 1-1 with Libya and 0-0 with Nigeria at the Amahoro Stadium.

The team is eager to secure its place in the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco from December 2025 to January 2026.
