The coach of the
national team 'Amavubi', Frank Torsten Spittler said that the Rwandans would
underestimate Djibouti and that they are a strong team.
Rwanda and
Djibouti will meet in the preliminary qualifying matches for the African Cup of
Nations (CHAN 2024), where the first match is scheduled for Sunday, October 27,
2024 at nine o'clock at Stade Amahoro.
In a press
conference held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, Coach Frank said that there are
those who believe in victory.
He said: “I heard
some journalists say that we will win five goals. First of all that is
insulting and unwarranted. It is a great team (Djibouti) most of the players
they use are from FIFA and CAF games and they are doing well."
He continued:
“They are a team that knows how to play and they have some of the best players
out there. I don't know who came up with this saying that it's going to be an
easy job, but it really isn't. This will make fans come to the stadium hoping
for victory. Last time I said I don't need fans to come when they see them win
because those are not fans."
Coach Frank said
that the players are in good condition and they will understand what they are
looking for so many of them have met in other competitions such as looking for
a ticket to the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
One of the main
players in this team, Muhire Kevin also pointed out that all the remaining
teams are strong and therefore there is no one left.
He said, “No
national team is easy, it depends on the one who is well prepared. To give you
an example, the other day Sierra Leone beat Côte d'Ivoire and they are a great
team. So in my opinion, the one who is well prepared wins, but the fans came in
large numbers to support us and seek happiness and we promise that we will
honor them."
Rwanda is going
to find out how to play the last CHAN again in 2021, after not playing in 2022
[which took place in 2023] after being dismissed by Ethiopia in the final
qualifier.
This time, the
team that will continue between Rwanda and Djibouti will meet the team that
will continue between South Sudan and Kenya, in the second qualifier that will
be played in December.
The CHAN 2024
finals will be held in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya between February 1 and 28,
2025.
