The Chief of Staff of the Rwandan Army, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, today visited the Central African Republic, meeting with Rwandan soldiers serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the country (MINUSCA), as well as those serving in a joint mission between the two countries.
Maj Gen Nyakarundi visited the RWABAT-1 unit operating at the Socatel M’Poko facility in Bangui, and held discussions with the unit’s leaders, commending them for their professionalism, dedication and commitment in successfully carrying out their peacekeeping missions. He also conveyed to them a message from the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Rwandan Armed Forces, Paul Kagame, commending them for their role in promoting peace and security.
Maj Gen Nyakarundi spoke to them about the security situation in Rwanda and the region, and encouraged them to continue to be characterized by good conduct, respect the values of the Rwandan Armed Forces, and continue to maintain their good image. He also met with the Commander-in-Chief of MINUSCA, Lt Gen Humphrey Nyone, to discuss the mission of MINUSCA and the important role that Rwandan soldiers play in peacekeeping operations.
Maj Gen Nyakarundi is expected to attend the closing ceremony of the training of Central African Republic (FACA) soldiers trained by the RDF, as well as hold talks with MINUSCA leaders and the leadership of the Central African Republic.
