The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has come under heavy fire from activists, who expressed outrage over the church’s approach to raising funds for its multi-billion-naira auditorium project.
During the recently concluded 61st annual convention at the vast Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Enoch Adeboye, the church’s General Overseer, unveiled plans for a new auditorium spanning three kilometres in both length and breadth.
On the night before the grand finale of the week long event, Pastor Adeboye made a public appeal for donations toward the project, which would be four times the size of the current auditorium, already estimated to hold about one million worshippers.
“We need N1 billion from ten people. If you are one of them, please see my personal secretary after today’s service,” Pastor Adeboye told the congregation.
“We also need N100 million from those who can afford it. If you are in that category, please meet my personal secretary as well.”
