The Ministry of
Defense has announced that more troops and police are being sent to fight
against violence and restore peace in the province of Cabo Delgado in
Mozambique.
Since 2021, the
Rwandan security forces (RSF) have been in Mozambique in efforts to recover
from the chaos that had engulfed the Province of Cabo Delgado in the North of
that country.
Since then, the
Rwandan army and the Rwandan police have made a great contribution in driving
out the desperation in different areas, restoring life in all areas, those who
fled and returned to their homes.
The website of
the Ministry of Defense shows that the soldiers and policemen who were
preparing to go to the mission to restore peace in Cabo Delgado were advised on
January 30, 2025.
The head of the
Rwandan Army's anti-tank division, Maj Gen Wilson Gumisiriza, who was the
representative of the Rwandan Army, asked those who were going to be sent to
the mission to continue to be characterized by the RDF values that include
courtesy and teamwork to have that they will represent Rwanda well.
The message of
the security forces of Rwanda in Mozambique is included in the agreement that
the two countries signed at the request of Mozambique in 2021.
The extremists of
Ahlu-Sunna Wa-Jama'a occupied the province of Cabo Delgado, from 2017 to 2021,
killing about 3000 innocent citizens, most of whom were beheaded, which also
caused about 800 thousand people to leave their homes and flee to camps for
years all four.
In 2022, the
Rwandan and Mozambican military forces signed an agreement to expand
cooperation in order to strengthen the efforts in Cabo Delgado and build the
capacity of the internal security forces.
Before the
arrival of the Rwandan army, the SADC forces had started to fight the unrest in
Cabo Delgado Province since 2017 and failed to defeat it.
