President Donald Trump has announced that there will be an investigation into the actions of the South African authorities to deprive the people of the land, and to mistreat some of the people, which will cause the US aid to this country to be suspended until the investigation of these issues is completed.

A few days ago, the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, signed a law related to the transfer of people to areas of public interest and where the Government considered it suitable and harmless, that the land will be dedicated to the State without compensation.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, when asked by journalists why he plans to stop aid to South Africa, said that it is because of the bad actions done by the leaders of this country.

He said, “There are terrible things going on in South Africa, the administration is doing terrible things.

It is being investigated, we will make a decision but until we know what South Africa is doing, they would have taken the land by force and maybe they would have done worse than that."

The law signed by President Ramaphosa replaces the one enacted during the Apartheid era which resulted in many blacks being forcibly dispossessed of their land for white interests.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa, Ronald Lamola, announced that they are ready to discuss with the United States and explain the contents of the law on the relocation of people for public benefit.

"We will hold talks with our American colleagues and explain in detail the law and other points of cooperation in the interests of both countries."

In fact, 25% of the cultivated land in South Africa is owned by blacks, yet they make up 80% of the population.

The Financial Times reports that the government plans to give blacks a third of their arable land by 2030. In 2023, the United States gave South Africa $440 million in aid.

Trump has currently suspended aid to foreign countries for three months. Trump also recently announced that the BRICS countries, including South Africa, will face sanctions, including 100% tariffs on their goods, if they support the US dollar and set their own currency.
