Arsenal defeated Manchester City 5-1 in the 24th day of the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, February 2, 2025. President Paul Kagame thanked the team for continuing to please its fans.

Arsenal, looking to complete their 14-game unbeaten run, opened the scoring early in the second minute when Manuel Akanji's ball was lost to Declan Rice's Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard put it into the back of the net.

Gabriel Martinelli thought he had scored a second goal in the fifth minute, but the referee signaled that there had been foul play. Manchester City went on a rampage in the next few minutes and even had a good chance on a through ball in the 23rd minute, which was cleared by David Raya before hitting the crossbar.

After two minutes, Arsenal created a great opportunity after a mistake by goalkeeper Stefan Ortega and Kai Havertz shot the ball wide.

It took a while until the 54th minute, when Erling Haaland charged Manchester City with a converted ball from Savinho, which the striker headed home.

A minute later, Arsenal took the lead again thanks to Thomas Partey's superb strike from the back of the net, which John Stones deflected into the keeper.

in the 62nd minute, Arsenal got the third goal scored by Myles Lewis-Skelly from a ball given to him by Declan Rice, which surprised the goalkeeper Ortega.

The introduction of Kevin De Bruyne, who replaced Phil Foden in the last 20 minutes, did nothing to help Manchester City's fourth goal scored by Kai Havertz in the 76th minute.

In the last three minutes of extra time, Ethan Nwaneri scored Arsenal's fifth goal to take second-placed Liverpool to 50 points, six points clear of first-placed Liverpool. Myles Lewis-Skelly is the only 18-year-old to score in a Premier League title since 2007, when Everton's Wayne Rooney beat Arsenal.

After the game, President Kagame sent a message on his social media, thanking the team and showing that the journey to the end continues.

He said "'Gunners' [Arsenal and its fans] you did it. We're gone!" In other games that took place this Sunday, Manchester United lost to Crystal Palace 2-0 goals scored by Jean-Philippe Mateta, Man United remains in 13th place.

Brentford also lost to Tottenham Hotspur 2-0.
