The president of
the M23 Movement, Bertrand Bisimwa, condemned those who say that Rwanda
provides support to the movement, stressing that it is a ruse made by the RDC
in order to give Rwanda an excuse.
The leader
returned to this on January 30, 2025, when the leaders of the AFC/M23 military
alliance held a press conference in the city of Goma.
It is a
conversation that returns to various things that include showing the picture of
the struggle M23 has been fighting for quite some time against the forces of
the Democratic Republic of Congo and what happened after the capture of Goma
City.
When he answered
the question of a Tanzanian journalist who asked if the M23 group is really
supported by Rwanda as is often heard by the RDC leadership, Bertrand Bisimwa
said that the question should not be asked again because the group defends no
one else. thanks for the help.
Bisimwa stressed
that Rwanda was used as an excuse for all the bad things happening in the
Democratic Republic of Congo, asking journalists not to be misled by the lies
of the DRC administration.
He said “We M23,
We AFC, consider ourselves Congolese and we have Congolese problems. You will
never hear us talking about the problems of Rwanda, the problem we are talking
about is the problem of the Congolese. Then you say that Rwanda is also
involved, but you wonder if Rwanda could help the Congolese people who were at
home? and to know if those reasons are reasonable.”
He pointed out
that it is unreasonable to understand that Rwanda is responsible for every
problem faced by the Congolese.
Bisiimwa pointed
out that if the M23 army wins the state of RDC, FRDC and other allied groups
including FDLR, Wazalendo and others, that country will immediately assume that
Rwanda is the winner.
He said, “Do they
have it in their minds that no other military can defeat them except the
Rwandan Army? They come up with vague things in what they say and they don't
even explain it clearly but they just lie to people. We M23 have many reasons
why we are fighting and that is why we are defeating the FARDC forces."
He went on to
explain that when an M23 soldier is fighting, he knows for sure that there is
no other way to retreat than to fight and he feels that it is death or
recovery.
He said, “Our M23
soldier, when he is fighting, knows for sure that there is no other way but to
fight, but the FARDC soldier fights only if they give him money. When they go
to fight, they fight for money like mercenaries, but we fight for our lives."
He went on to
explain that this is the difference between an M23 soldier and a FARDC soldier,
confirming that when you are fighting for your life you have no choice but to
fight and win or lose.
Bisimwa said that
during the war they have been dealing with young children, mostly those under
the age of 25, who are given drugs and money so that they go to war without
fighting for their patriotism.
The RDC often
accuses Rwanda of supporting the M23 terrorist group and accuses that country
of working with the FDLR group, which is made up of those who committed the
genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.
