The coordinator
of AFC/M23, Corneille Nangaa, said that Rwandans who live on the border of the
RDC, will no longer be threatened because the group expelled the criminals who
were doing it, including the RDC army and allied groups including Wazalendo and
the FDLR, and also took the opportunity to ask for Congolese refugees. they are
around home.
He returned to it
when he was in a press conference held in the city of Goma, on January 30,
2025.
When he answered
the questions of a reporter who asked what they hope for the people living on
the border, especially those in Rubavu District who have been threatened, the
Congolese speaking Rwandan people who continue to be attacked and the Congolese
refugees who are around, Corneille Nangaa assured security for all people and
asks the refugees to return to the country.
At the beginning
of this week when there was a battle to liberate the city of Goma, the RDC
soldiers and the allied groups failed, they decided to shoot on Rwandan soil,
in Rubavu District.
By January 28,
2025, nine Rwandans had been killed, while many others were injured.
Corneille Nangaa,
said that the residents of the border of RDC, will no longer be threatened
because the criminals were doing it, they have been expelled, and this group is
the one that controls the border.
He also spoke
about the speakers of Kinyarwanda, confirming that it is a language used by
Africans, spoken in Rwanda and the DRC, where there are Congolese speakers who
live in different areas such as Nyiragongo, Masisi and Rutshuru where most of
them speak the language.
He went on to
show that the problem of the speakers of the language of Ikinyarwanda being
identified as Rwandans was caused by those who set borders between countries
and that it was made by people.
He confirmed that
being neighboring countries has a lot in common and therefore the fact that the
people speak Rwandan does not make them Rwandans, he was able to give assurance
that M23 will provide security to the people of that country.
He said, “The
hope I am going to give is that the Revolutionary Armed Forces, our AFC/M23
forces, have put in place all measures to bring peace to the DRC. All I can
tell you is that the criminals used to do it, they are no longer here.”
Regarding the
Congolese refugees who are all over the countries of the region including
Rwanda, he said that they should go home and there should be a way to do this.
He said, “They
are not only in Rwanda, Nairobi and Tanzania, and they are not only refugees
who fled because they speak the Ikinyarwanda language. If you go to Ituri
because of the special circumstances, today you see a lot of refugees. All
Congolese have the right to return home.”
He pointed out
that crossing them is a journey and they are ready to go through the people as
they will agree to return to their country.
Nangaa assured
the safety of all the people in Goma and the speakers of the Kinyarwanda
language in general.
He said, “We
guarantee safety for all people, both foreigners and citizens. Because RDC is
our country. God has given us this rich and economic country.”
