Delivering a wide-ranging address to lawmakers in Mogadishu on Saturday, the President highlighted what he described as notable achievements in Somalia’s foreign policy, security sector, and economic development, while calling for continued national unity to consolidate the country’s progress.
The President said Somalia has restored greater control over its political decision-making, arguing that the country now plays a more influential role in regional and international affairs than it did in previous years.
“Somalia’s political decisions can no longer be made abroad,” Hassan Sheikh told Parliament, describing the shift as a reflection of growing national sovereignty and stronger state institutions.
The remarks come as Somalia continues efforts to deepen diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners while pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening governance and attracting foreign investment.
Hassan Sheikh argued that sustainable development will depend on building capable state institutions, particularly in the areas of security, justice, and economic management. He said a stronger national foundation is essential if Somalia is to improve investor confidence and enhance its standing on the global stage.
“Without a capable and well-equipped military, a strong economy, and a solid legal foundation, Somalia will not be able to attract investment or earn the respect it deserves in the international community,” the President said.
The government has identified economic growth, institutional reform, and security as central pillars of its long-term development strategy. Officials have repeatedly stated that improving the investment climate requires greater political stability, stronger legal protections, and continued efforts to expand state authority nationwide.
