RUSSIA: Car Bomb Explosion Kills Russian General in Moscow, Ukraine Suspected

A senior Russian military officer lost his life early Monday after an explosive device detonated under his vehicle, with investigators suggesting possible Ukrainian involvement.Reports from Russian media say the blast occurred around 7 a.m. in a parking area in southern Moscow, destroying the car.

Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed that a criminal case has been opened over the incident. According to spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko, the explosion killed Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, who headed the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

The Defence Ministry said Sarvarov had previously served in Chechnya and was also involved in Russia’s military operations in Syria.

Petrenko added that investigators are exploring several theories behind the killing, including the possibility that Ukrainian intelligence services planned the attack.

Ukraine had earlier taken responsibility for a similar car bombing that killed a high-ranking Russian officer in December. In April, another senior Russian military figure was also killed when a bomb went off near his apartment in Moscow.

The Kremlin has repeatedly accused Ukraine of being behind a series of bombings and targeted attacks inside Russia.
