The Chief of Defence Staff of Uganda, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has urged citizens to participate in the 2026 presidential elections, but reminded them that after voting, they should immediately return to their homes and avoid creating chaos at polling stations.

He made this statement during the insignia ceremony of newly promoted soldiers, which took place on December 14, 2025.

Gen. Kainerugaba stressed that citizens should participate in the elections, but after voting, they should avoid confrontation or staying at polling stations.

He assured that the election monitoring activities will be carried out in a safe manner, both for election officials, journalists, and observers.

He said, “Those who will try to create problems, as I have heard some boast, their problem will be dealt with seriously using all the tools at our disposal, and in a manner that respects the law. In this election season, we are asking all politicians to comply with the instructions of the National Electoral Commission and work well with security agencies for the sake of everyone’s peace.”

He continued by saying, “We are asking citizens to vote peacefully, and return to their homes, rather than staying at polling stations.”

Gen. Muhoozi thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his steadfast leadership, saying that it has contributed to the UPDF being a well-disciplined force, and playing a major role in maintaining peace in the country and the region.
