Ugandan soldiers engaged in operations against armed groups in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have killed two Congolese soldiers.
In Djugu territory in Ituri province, Ugandan troops have arrested two suspected members of the CODECO armed group, which has been killing civilians for years.
On the morning of December 2, 2025, DRC soldiers went to the Ugandan army base in Djugu town to release the men, but they refused to release them. This is where the fighting began, with both sides exchanging fire.
The commander of Djugu territory said that among the dead soldiers was a close bodyguard of the DRC army commander. Another Congolese soldier was seriously injured, and their AK-47 rifles were seized.
It was planned that on December 3, the Djugu territorial administration would send a delegation to the scene of the fighting to investigate and gather more information.
