The National Electoral Commission of Guinea-Bissau has announced that it will not be able to announce the results of the elections held on November 23, 2025, because ballot boxes and voter lists were looted from the office by the military who seized power.
The military in Guinea-Bissau seized power on November 26, 2025, the day before the electoral commission was due to announce the results.
A statement issued by Idrissa Djalo, a senior official at the electoral commission, said that there were no resources or means to continue the election.
After the election, incumbent Umaro Sissoco Embaló claimed victory with 65% of the vote, while his opposition rival, Fernando Dias, claimed victory with 52%.
It all ended with the military in power, Umaro Sissoco Embaló fleeing to Congo-Brazaville and Dias fleeing to Nigeria.
