CAF to study Al Hilal SC and Al Merreikh’s request to play in the Rwandan Premier League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), which will meet on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, will consider the applications of Al Hilal SC and Al Merreikh who wish to play in the Rwandan Premier League.

These Sudanese teams have requested the Rwandan Football Association (FERWAFA) to grant them permission to play in the Rwandan Premier League, given the poor security situation in their home country.

FERWAFA has given its blessing, as has the Rwanda Premier League, which is preparing for the Rwanda Premier League, but both teams will compete after obtaining CAF’s permission.

To date, these teams have not received this permission, but it is expected that they will have received it by this week, as the CAF Executive Committee will meet on Wednesday, November 17, 2025, to consider this request.

Not being allowed to play in the Rwandan Premier League, Al Hilal SC’s scheduled match against AS Kigali was changed to a friendly match, winning 2-0.

Al Hilal SC continues to prepare for the CAF Champions League group stage match against MC Alger on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Stade Amahoro.

The friendly match to prepare for this match was played against the Rwandan National Team ‘Amavubi’, a team that plays in the country, with both teams drawing 0-0.

The Rwandan Premier League is not being played due to the international break, and will resume on Friday, when Matchday Eight will be played.
