US President Donald Trump has threatened to sue the BBC for $1 billion if it fails to comply with his lawyers’ demands.
A leaked document showing how a documentary about Donald Trump’s speeches was produced and broadcast before the US election in late 2024 has caused controversy.
The document, written by former BBC consultant Michael Prescott, claims that the footage was edited to suggest that Trump was behind the riots outside the US Capitol.
The BBC’s top brass resigned on Sunday.
The US president’s office said more work was needed. Trump’s lawyers said they had asked the BBC to retract the documentary, apologize and provide compensation.
They said that if the BBC did not comply with this, it could be taken to court and fined $1 billion for the consequences of the damage caused by the film.
