Malawi: Petroleum products hit by protests in Tanzania

Malawian authorities have said that protests in Tanzania have caused a shortage of petroleum products in the country as 120 fuel trucks have been stranded.

A statement issued on October 31, 2025, indicated that the road from the port of Dar es Salaam to Tanga has been closed since October 29 due to the protests.

The protests in Tanzania, led by mainly young people, have lasted for three days in Tanzania since October 29, 2025, over the handling of the presidential election.

Malawi said that the unloading of ships was disrupted, preventing 48 million liters of gasoline and diesel fuel that were supposed to be sent to the country from being delivered.

The Malawian government has confirmed that other routes can be used, including Nacala and Beira in Mozambique and Msasa in Zimbabwe, to transport petroleum products.
