FERWAFA prepares VAR for Championship play-offs
The President of the Ruhago Association in Rwanda, Shema Fabrice, said that VAR technology will be tested in the playoffs of the Championship and referees will be trained, so that in the next season of the championship Rwanda will start using it in depth.
The leader reiterated this in an interview with the media on Monday, October 27, 2025.
He was asked about the issue of referees that has been very visible in the championship for some days, especially since some have recently been suspended.
He said, “In our zone, the VAR department is in Tanzania but I told you that we cannot send two referees out of 200. I told you that we will ask the one in Tanzania to come to Rwanda so that we can train more.”
He continued, “It is likely that we will start testing [VAR] in the first matches so that we can start using it in the playoffs and in the next season and use it properly. What I can tell you is that we are in the process of reforming the referees so that in the playoffs in February we will have VAR to support us.”
The 2025/26 season has reached the fifth day but one of the stories that is being talked about a lot is the problems with the referees, with some being suspended and many clubs continuing to complain a lot.
