On Monday, Egyptian Defense Minister Abdul Majeed Saqr held a meeting with his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, to advance military cooperation between the two nations.
The talks focused on boosting coordination between their armed forces and promoting security and stability across Africa, according to the Egyptian military.
Saqr underscored the deep rooted relationship between Egypt and Somalia, vowing to strengthen collaboration in several military sectors, an official statement confirmed.
Fiqi, in turn, commended Egypt’s “genuine efforts to foster security and peace” across the continent, noting that both countries share common ground on pressing regional issues.
The Somali National News Agency explained that the discussions emphasized greater cooperation in training, equipment sharing, and support in logistics to enhance regional stability.
Plans for joint operations and developing military strength were also discussed, with the aim of helping Somalia and its neighbors confront ongoing security issues, the agency added.
