Chichester City FC striker and ex-Arsenal academy player, Billy Vigar, has tragically passed away after sustaining a significant brain injury.
The 21 year old, who was born in Worthing, got injured during an Isthmian League Premier Division match at Wingate and Finchley on Saturday.
Although unconfirmed by the club, it is believed the fatal injury occurred when he collided with a concrete wall.
In a heartbreaking statement released on Thursday, Vigar’s family said they were devastated that this has happened while he was playing the sport he loved.
They explained that after sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put into an induced coma. On Tuesday, he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery. Although this helped, but the injury proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday morning.
The responses to the original update show how much Billy was loved and thought of within the sport.
Vigar, once a promising Arsenal talent, was pictured battling Dalibor Vecerka of Sparta Prague during a Premier League International Cup clash at Meadow Park on November 30, 2022, in Borehamwood.
