South Africa’s Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie Faces Uproar Over Racist Remark

South Africa’s Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie, known for being outspoken against racism, is now facing accusations of racism himself, claims he strongly denies.

Viewed by many as a voice for the frustrations of the country’s coloured community, the census term for people of mixed heritage in South Africa, McKenzie has long been a polarising figure.

But resurfaced social media posts in which he used a highly offensive words directed at black people have triggered a political storm.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has given him until the end of Wednesday to respond, demanding that he remove the posts, issue a public apology, and meet other requirements.
