On 10 November 2025, Rwanda received seven FDLR fighters and their families, who were repatriated by staff from the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
The Rwandans were repatriated after spending three days in a temporary center for those who have laid down their arms and want to return to normal life, located in the city of Goma.
MONUSCO announced that it had repatriated a total of 49 Rwandans and that they were happy to return to Rwanda, asking their comrades still in the bush to lay down their arms and live in peace with others.
From January to October 2025, MONUSCO repatriated 54 Rwandan fighters who were in the DRC, mostly FDLR. They returned with 44 family members.
One of those who returned this year said, “Life in the bush is bad. That is why I am asking my brothers and sisters to surrender to MONUSCO so that they can return home in peace and security.”
The fighters that Rwanda receives are taken to the Rwandan National Reintegration Commission (RDRC) facility located in Mutobo, Musanze District, where they are given training to help them develop.
On October 30, the RDRC repatriated 143 former FDLR fighters who had spent between three and six months undergoing training at the Mutobo camp, stressing that it will continue to assist those who agree to return home peacefully.
