Rift Valley Fever Spreads to More Regions in Senegal as Cases Rise to 302

Senegal’s Ministry of Health has confirmed 15 new Rift Valley fever infections and one more death, pushing the national total to 302 cases and 26 fatalities.

The outbreak, which initially affected six regions, has now spread to eight, with Saint-Louis remaining the most impacted area, accounting for 249 cases.

For the first time, the regions of Thies and Tambacounda have reported infections, signaling the continued expansion of the disease across the country.

Health officials reported that 227 patients have so far recovered, reflecting ongoing medical efforts to contain the situation.

Former Health Minister Awa Marie Coll Seck called for stronger government coordination and the involvement of multiple sectors to manage the outbreak effectively.

She emphasized the importance of adopting the “One Health” approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental surveillance to prevent further spread of the virus.

Authorities in Senegal continue to monitor developments closely, working to contain the disease and safeguard public health.
