Rayon Sports was ordered by FIFA to pay coach Robertinho $22.5 million for his illegal dismissal, which it has already paid.
Coach Robertinho, who was suspended by Rayon Sports on medical grounds, filed a lawsuit seeking payment of his wages from January 2025 until the end of the football season in May 2025.
On August 12, 2025, FIFA informed both parties that the club had “only 45 days to pay the $22,500 to the claimant”. The days were running out because the club was facing financial problems, compounded by disagreements among its management.
As a team that participated in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) allocated Ruhago a bonus of $100,000.
The money he has already received is the one he used to pay Roberto Oliveira Gonçalves do Carmo ‘Robertinho’ $22.5 million [32.7 million Frw], which was the main reason he was suspended from signing new players.
Others paid were Tunisian midfielder Mohammed Chelly, who received $3,000, equivalent to three months of his contract, and assistant coach Azouz Lotfi, who was given two months of $3,000 to separate.
The remaining issues that Rayon Sports is going to address through a campaign to encourage fans to support their team are to find the money for last month’s salaries owed to its players and staff.
There is the money of its former striker, Adulai Jalo, who must be paid $7,000, because he was also illegally dismissed and appealed to FIFA, and Coach Afhamia Lotfi, whose fate is still unclear after being dismissed by Rayon Sports.
Rayon Sports is solving financial problems related to preparing for the match of the Eighth Day of the Rwandan Premier League, which will pit them against AS Kigali at the Kigali Pelé Stadium on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Gikundiro is in second place with 13 points in the Rwandan Premier League table, led by Police FC by three points.
