Racist Abuse Stops Liverpool vs Bournemouth Match as Semenyo Responds with Two Goals

The Premier League first match on Friday between Liverpool and Bournemouth was stopped in the first half after Cherries forward Antoine Semenyo reported being subjected to racist abuse from someone inside Anfield.

Despite the incident, the 25 year old responded in the best way possible on the pitch, scoring twice in the space of 12 second half minutes to bring Bournemouth level, before the defending champions struck late to secure a 4-2 victory.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a 47 year old man was removed from the stadium following reports of abuse aimed at Semenyo and that an investigation is underway.

“We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible,” said Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton.

After the match, Ghana international Semenyo shared further racist messages he had received on Instagram, writing: “When will it stop?”
