President Suluhu slams neighbors who want to disrupt peace in Tanzania
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said that political parties in neighboring countries have tried to influence Tanzania, some of whom have been imprisoned and others have been deported. Suluhu said that the parties that have failed to bring about change in their own countries have begun to interfere in Tanzania's governance. He said, "We have begun to see that political parties in neighboring countries are trying to interfere in our programs. If they are opposed in their own countries, they should not come and disturb our peace." President Suluhu affirmed that Tanzania is the only country in the region that has not faced political problems for a long time and therefore they will not tolerate anyone who wants to disturb its peace. The May 19 Suluhu Declaration came after former Chief Justice of Kenya Willy Mutunga, journalist and activist Hanifa Adan, and Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid were arrested on May 19, 2025, for allegedly attempting to enter Tanzania in support of jailed opposition figure Tundu Lissu. On May 18, 2025, Martha Karua, who served as Kenya's Minister of Justice, and two others were deported to Kenya hours after their passports were confiscated at Julius Nyerere International Airport. Tundu Lissu has been a hot topic in Kenya in recent days as he was due to appear in court to defend himself on charges of treason.
