President Kagame receives envoy of Gabon’s President Brice Oligui Nguema

President Paul Kagame received the Minister of Reforms and Institutional Cooperation of Gabon, François Ndong Obiang, on November 20, 2025.

The Office of the Head of State, Village Urugwiro, explained that Minister Obiang conveyed to President Kagame a message from President Brice Oligui Nguema of Gabon.

Rwanda and Gabon relations began shortly after independence. They cooperate mainly through international organizations they share, including the African Union (AU) and the Francophonie.

In November 2024, Rwanda, represented by the Office of the Ombudsman, and Gabon, represented by the Commission for the Fight against Corruption and Financial Crimes, signed a cooperation agreement in the fight against corruption.

In October 2023, a new era began in the relations between the two countries when President Nguema visited Rwanda. At that time, he discussed with President Kagame how cooperation could be strengthened and this discussion yielded positive results.

President Kagame and Nguema agreed that Rwanda and Gabon will work together to develop the education, trade, economy, agriculture and technology sectors.

In May 2025, President Kagame attended the swearing-in ceremony of President Nguema, who had recently won the presidential election. This event strengthened the good relations between Gabon and Rwanda.
