President Kagame is a good leader in Rwanda and Africa – Victor Gao

President Kagame is a good leader in Rwanda and Africa - Victor Gao
Political analyst and Vice President of the Center for China and Globalization, Victor Gao, has declared that President Paul Kagame has been more than just a good leader for Rwanda, he is also a good leader for the African continent.

He reiterated this at the International Conference on Security in Africa held in Kigali from May 19-21, 2025.

In opening the conference, President Kagame said that Africa should find solutions to its own security rather than leaving it in the hands of foreigners because over the years, such efforts have yielded no results.

In an interview with Gao, which focused on ensuring African security, he said that the way he saw Rwanda, President Kagame is a good leader for the whole of Africa.

He said, “I don’t think President Kagame is a good leader only for Rwanda but also for Africa, and he is a respected and experienced leader in today’s world.”

Gao stressed that Africa needs to use the knowledge and capabilities of its people to make decisions that lead to development.

The man said that there are those who want to force Africa to choose between China and the United States, but this continent should see that they are working together.

He said, “If America is doing well, why don’t you work with it or follow its lead? And if China is doing well, why don’t you work with it? But also, if America is doing badly, why do you choose to work with it or China is doing badly?”

“It means that Africans need to think for themselves and decide whether this or that country is doing well or badly. No country should force you to choose things that are not in your interests.”

Dr. Gao said that this was his first visit to Rwanda but he saw Kigali as on the right path to development, just like China, which had been in a state of economic revolution in 1978, opening its doors to foreign investors, so that in 46 years it has become a country with a stable economy.

“The idea I want to convey here is that if China can do it in 46 years, Rwanda and Africa can do it in the next 40 years. Be confident. China is an example that Rwandans and Africans can emulate.”

The man said that Africa’s security must be based on the internal security of each country, continuous development and cooperation with countries that can help achieve development goals.
