President Kagame arrives in Kazakhstan
President Paul Kagame has arrived in Kazakhstan on a working visit, where he will also attend the Astana International Forum and hold talks with his counterpart, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
President Kagame arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan on May 27, 2027.
The Office of the Head of State, Village Urugwiro, announced that President Kagame is on a working visit, where he will also address the participants of the Astana International Forum scheduled for May 29-30.
They continued, saying, “President Kagame will also hold closed-door talks with his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev tomorrow, and they will then hold a press conference.”
Rwanda and Kazakhstan’s relations were strengthened when the two countries appointed a representative to the country in 2016.
In September 2024, during the UN General Assembly session in New York, United States, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, signed an agreement with his Kazakh counterpart, Murat Nurtleu, to abolish visa requirements for citizens of both countries, facilitating travel.
Kazakhstan is a major economic and political power in Central Asia, accounting for 60% of the region’s GDP, largely through oil and gas exports. It also has significant mineral resources.
The Astana International Forum is an annual international forum held in Astana, Kazakhstan. It began in 2008 but will be renamed in 2023 and its agenda will be expanded.
It brings together heads of state, business leaders, academics, and international organizations to discuss pressing global issues such as security, international politics, energy, climate change, and economic development.
