Habumugisha Jean Paul, the owner of the Roots Investment Group, a brewery that produces ‘Be One Gin’, has been arrested and sources say his case has been forwarded to the Prosecution Service while it gathers evidence to bring him to court.
This information was revealed days after the man was reportedly arrested following Operation ‘Usalama XI’ that took place between October 15-17, 2025.
The spokesperson for the National Bureau of Investigation (RBI), Dr. Murangira B. Thierry, confirmed to IGIHE that Habumugisha has been arrested and his case has been forwarded to the Prosecution Service.
He said, “It is true that Habumugisha Jean Paul, the owner of the brewery that produces ‘Be One Gin’, has been arrested and his case has been forwarded to the Prosecution Service. He is suspected of producing beverages that can kill or endanger life.”
Dr. Murangira said that Habumugisha is currently detained at Rusororo RIB Station.
Habumugisha is charged with an offense punishable under Article 115 of the Rwandan Penal Code, which states that any person who causes another person to become ill or incapacitated by giving him, in any way, intentionally, but without intent to kill, a deadly substance or substances that, although not capable of killing, have the potential to endanger life, commits an offense.
If convicted by the Court, he shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term of not less than two years but not more than three years and a fine of not less than 300,000 Rwf but not more than 500,000 Rwf.
