Over 40 Killed in Deadly Attack on Displaced Persons Camp in Darfur

An aid group working in Sudan’s western Darfur region says at least 40 people lost their lives in an assault on a camp for displaced residents.

The Abu Shouk Emergency Response Room reported that Monday’s attack was carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This was also confirmed by the resistance committee in nearby el-Fasher city, made up of local citizens and activists.

El-Fasher, which also faced heavy strikes, remains the last significant stronghold in Darfur for the army and its allies, who have been battling the RSF during the two-year civil war.

The ongoing conflict has caused severe humanitarian crisis, with the UN warning that families trapped in the city are at risk of starvation.
