Tension broke out on Thursday in the Ajipowo area of Akure South Local Government, Ondo State, after furious residents beat a well known commercial motorcyclist, Tunde Ilesanmi, to death.
Ilesanmi, popularly called Dudu due to his dark complexion, was accused of being part of a robbery incident in the community the night before alongside two accomplices.
According to eyewitnesses, he was spotted on Thursday morning while dropping off a passenger in the area. Residents who claimed to have identified him as one of the robbers quickly descended on him.
“Once he was seen, they dragged him from his motorcycle and started beating him. Other residents, already frustrated by constant robberies in the area, joined the attack until he died,” a witness told reporters under anonymity.
