Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has confirmed that they will build an arena that will cost about $172 million.
Tanzanian government spokesperson and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, Culture and the Arts, George Msigwa, announced that funding for the construction of the project has been secured.
He said, “This issue has kept our President awake at night because we did not have the money to build this building. Finally, we have received funding. The President was recently in South Korea and they gave him a loan of $2.5 billion.”
He continued, “The President has confirmed that the first $172 million will be used to build the arena, and the second will be used to build a movie city.”
This comes after various artists led by Diamond Platnumz have been pleading with the government to build them a modern entertainment center.
At the recent Trace Awards ceremony held in Zanzibar, Diamond appealed to President Suluhu to build an Arena to host major concerts.
This was after the event had been marred by controversy and he said that what happened was a disgrace to the country.
The artiste continued by stating that the government has put efforts into building good stadiums in all the provinces of the country but musicians have been neglected and they only requested one building.
It is planned that this building will be built in Kawe in the city of Dar es Salaam. It is not known how many people it will be able to accommodate.
Since the completion of the BK Arena in Rwanda in 2019, countries in the region have begun to indicate that they also need such a building.
The infrastructure problem continues to be a problem in the region as in recent days, Kenya missed out on the opportunity to host Chris Brown who said there was no place in Nairobi for him to hold a concert.
