Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, participated in the ministerial meeting of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). The meeting is being held in Sipopo, Equatorial Guinea, where leaders are discussing key issues related to the economy, politics, and security in Central Africa.
This ministerial gathering precedes the ECCAS Heads of State and Government Summit, scheduled for October 18, 2024. ECCAS aims to promote economic cooperation among Central African countries, enhancing regional integration to improve the living standards of citizens and prevent economic crises through transparent partnerships.
Founded in 1983, ECCAS unites 11 countries, including Rwanda, with the goal of fostering economic growth in the region by strengthening industries and promoting agriculture. The organization also focuses on natural resource management, energy, trade, education, transportation, communication, science, and technology.
Rwanda, a founding member, briefly withdrew from ECCAS in 2008 before rejoining in 2016.
