As more rural residents migrate to Kigali, Rwanda’s rapidly expanding capital, the city’s population is set to double over the next 25 years. This surge in growth presents a major challenge for developers who are struggling to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing. In a small, densely populated country that has seen significant economic development, finding sustainable solutions is crucial.
Currently, 79% of Kigali's population lives in informal settlements with limited access to essential services. In response, the Rwandan government is working on a new housing strategy aimed at reducing construction costs for developers and making better use of the limited available land. However, overcoming these obstacles remains a significant challenge.
