Kidum, who is in
Kigali where he participated in the 'Amore Valentine's Gala' concert scheduled
to be held at Camp Kigali on February 14, 2025, a day dedicated to lovers,
asked artists and those related to art not to interfere in political issues.
Kidum said this
in an interview with the press on February 13, 2025.
In this
interview, the reporter asked Kidum what message he would give to artists in
these times when Rwanda is going to perform without good relations with his
native country of Burundi.
Here, the
journalist used examples of artists who say that the government has banned them
from singing in the country because of the problems they have.
In response to
this question, Kidum said that the Burundian government has never prevented him
from going to a concert because of political issues, but he testified that they
tend to ask him not to interfere in politics.
He said, "I
am telling the truth, I am not told by the Government of Burundi not to sing
anywhere, I don't see it interfering with music [...] I don't see them calling
me to interfere in politics but they call me and ask me not to interfere and
ask me to stay in music."
Kidum reminded
artists that they are making music even though they are not restricted from
speaking for their countries but they should remember that they need fans from
all over the world.
He said, "My
line is that I don't die here, I go to Bujumbura and other places and I sing to
everyone without discrimination [...] and I ask the artists to do the same.
Yes, everyone has the right to speak for their country, but don't be arrogant."
Kidum, who said
that politics has players who do not fail, again asked artistes and journalists
to try not to get involved in politics but to put their efforts into promoting
music and bringing joy to the people.
